STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAM

B.Sc. Engg. in Computer Science and Engineering program prepares today’s students into tomorrow’s engineers. The program has the built-in system of orientation for the graduates to keep themselves updated with the rapid changes in the computer world. The focus of the program is on building the strength of the students in computer engineering.

The undergraduate program is covered by a set of theoretical courses along with a set of laboratory courser to support them. The total credit hour of B.Sc. Engg. in Computer Science and Engineering degree at BUBT is 163 credits consisting of 123 theory credits and 36 lab credits and a thesis/project of 4 credits. The assignment of credits to a theoretical course follows a different rule from that of a sessional course.

In case of theoretical courses one hour lecture per week per semester is equivalent to one credit. For lab courses credits are half of the class hours per week per semester.

Admission requirements for B. Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE):

  1.  For the HSC or equivalent level students:

    • Science background with Mathematics and Physics at HSC or equivalent level.
    • GPA at least 2.50 or 2nd Division in SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations; or
    • GPA at least 2.00 either in SSC or HSC examination, but the total GPA in both the examinations must be at least 6.00; or
    • Completed at least 5 Subjects in ‘O’ Level and 2 Subjects in ‘A’ Level. At least B Grade in 4 Subjects and C Grade in 3 Subjects out of 7 Subjects.
    • North American High School Diploma or International Baccalaureate, or its equivalent.
    • In case of sons/daughters of Freedom Fighters a total GPA of at least 5.00 in both SSC and HSC Examinations. But the proof of Father /Mother as Freedom Fighter must be submitted.
  2.  For the Diploma (Engineering) students:

    • Three or four years Diploma in Engineering from Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) with a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.00, or
    • A Diploma recognized by BTEB with a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.00 in any engineering discipline from any recognized institute.

Admission Procedure for B. Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE):

Admission form and prospectus are available in the admission office/ reception desk. After verification of the necessary documents, the applicants are allowed to deposit the admission fees and sign on the application form to complete the admission process.

The following documents are needed at the time of admission:

  • Two passport size color photographs (studio lab print with white background for ID card).
  • Photocopies of certificates and marksheets/transcripts of SSC/HSC or equivalent level. SSC/ equivalent registration card, birth certificate/ national ID card (one copy each).
  • Original certificates, marksheets/transcripts, registration card and birth certificate /national ID card must be produced for verification by the officer in charge of admission of BUBT.

COURSE DESIGNATION AND NUMBERING SYSTEM

Each course is designated by a three-letter word identifying the department, which offers it followed by a three-digit number with the following criteria:

  1. The first digit will correspond to the year in which the course in normally taken by the students. Three semesters are run in each year. Usually digit 1 is for first year courses, digit 2 for second year courses, digit 3 for third      year courses and digit 4 is for fourth year courses.
  2. The second digit will be reserved for departmental use for such thing as to identify different areas within a department.
  3. The last digit will usually be odd for theoretical and even for laboratory or seasonal courses.

TYPE OF COURSES

The types of courses included in the B. Sc. In CSE program are divided in to the following groups:

Core Courses: In B. Sc. In CSE program, a number of courses are identified as core courses, which form the nucleus of the program. A student has to complete all the designated core courses.

Prerequisite Courses: Some of the core courses are identified as prerequisite courses for a specific subject. A prerequisite course is the one that is required to be completed before some other course(s) can be taken.

Optional Courses: Apart from the core courses, the students can choose from a set of optional courses. A required number of optional courses from a specified group have to be chosen.
