Dear would be students and guardians, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce to you the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at BUBT. BUBT is one of the leading private universities of Bangladesh having its Permanent Campus in Rupnagar, a key location of Dhaka City.
The discovery of electricity has transformed the world in every possible manner. This phenomenon, which is mostly taken as granted, has had a huge impact on people's lifestyles. Most, if not all modern scientific discoveries are indebted to the advent of electricity. It is of no surprise that science and engineering of diverse disciplines such as Computer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Textile Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, to name a few are required to take courses related to concepts of electrical circuits. Moreover, due to the current economical and environmental issues, it has never been so important to device new strategies and search for alternative sources and green energy to tackle the ever increasing demand for electrical power. The knowledge earned and skills developed from the courses in EEE at BUBT prepare the young undergraduates to work in industries and learn more advanced techniques that constitute an integral part of their lives.
Considering the increasing demand for Electrical and Electronic Engineering Graduates in industries of Bangladesh, BUBT started Electrical and Electronic Engineering Program in Spring Semester of the Academic Year 2003.
Electrical and Electronic Engineering encompasses diverse fields such as the heavy electrical engineering firms in power generation, the design and application of sophisticated medical electronics, computer modeling, telecommunications (involving local, national and international networks), electromagnetic, information technology, mobile telecommunication and expert systems. Virtually no other engineering discipline changes as rapidly, or provides such a variety of career opportunities. EEE includes the worldwide telecommunications network, incorporating both satellite links and fiber-optic undersea cables, which allow us to talk to people all over the world. The home computer, pocket calculator, television and microwave oven are all achievements of professional Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
Electrical and Electronic Engineering covers production, transmission and utilization of electrical power as well as the transmission and processing of information.
Electrical and Electronic Engineering is the discipline that employs the largest number of engineers worldwide, covers everything related to electrical devices, systems, and the use of electricity. Electrical engineers work on power plants, computer industries, process industries, telecommunication industries and other industries. We cannot think of our home, offices, markets, industries without electricity and hence electrical engineers.
At BUBT, the undergraduate curriculum of EEE program has been designed to prepare the students aspiring to become electrical engineers with the basic knowledge and skills of electricity required by industry for technical jobs and students are given practical knowledge about electricity that will help them to decide if they are ready to take it, and guide them in preparation if they are not ready yet for the said job.
Our goal of effective electrical engineering instruction is to encourage the students to construct an understanding that is generally consistent with accepted scientific theory. We have a well established system of guiding our students in his/her pursuit of knowledge in electrical engineering through academic advising. General academic advising for newly admitted students is done during orientation program at the beginning of each semester. Specific academic advising is given to all continuing EEE students through assigning a faculty member as academic adviser to each intake of students. Personal academic advising is available to students who may need it from the Chairman of the department or any faculty member specifically assigned by the Chairman.
Side by side with the core courses, Dept. of EEE offers B.Sc. Engineering in the following 4 (four) major areas:
Students of all the major groups in EEE program are given a balanced knowledge of electrical circuits and machines, basic electronics and digital electronics, power systems, electrical power generation, transmission & distribution, telecommunication, computer and microprocessor before choosing his/her major areas for specialization.
The primary purpose of core courses in EEE program here at BUBT is to introduce very fundamental and core concepts of Electrical Engineering and the courses in the major areas will assist them to adopt or refresh their young minds rudimentary by knowing how to analyze simple as well as complex electric system in his/her area of expertise. The courses in the major areas serve as a useful tool to acquire focused knowledge in a particular area of one's interest. The material presented in each of the courses- core or major area, are succinct with numerical examples covering almost every concept for fair understanding of the subject.
We, in EEE Dept., have aligned the program objective in the direction of the BUBT mission and vision. Therefore, EEE mission and vision has been set accordingly. Individual course objectives and outcomes are also aligned with the mission and objectives of EEE program.
Selection of faculty members in BUBT is very fair and is based on the academic achievements of the individual faculty members and his/her aptitude for teaching and his/her mission and vision that goes with the mission and vision of EEE Program.
Faculty members in EEE Dept. focus their efforts in educating the would be electrical engineers for results, performances, competencies and standards, what we call outcome oriented education. The method of teaching is student oriented and the mission is learning.
We stress on the students' ability to communicate (in reading, writing, listening, speaking, questioning, and creative expressions), developing necessary skills (record keeping, problem solving skills, use of technology as a tool for learning) and career planning.
