Inauguration of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in BUBT
July 22, 2018: Student Branchesof the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)ofBangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT)and Women in Engineering Affinity Group (WIE AG) of BUBT were inaugurated in BUBT’s EEE Department on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the University International Conference Hall, Rupnagar, Dhaka.
Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Professor, Dept. of EEE, BUET and Chair-IEEE BDS claimed the inauguration as the Chief Guest of the ceremony. She said in her speech that EEE students should enter into the global EEE community to be successful professional engineer. They should follow international standard and go through international trends by studying international authors books. According to the professor, If EEE students enjoy the professional activities they will be succeeded.
A Keynote paper on prospects and trends of Semiconductor business in Bangladesh was presented by Mr. Ismail Hossain, Manager, Hiring and Business Development, Ulkemi Limited.
In presence of Professor Dr. Mohammed RubaiyatChowdhury, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences, BUBT, Engineer M AzharulHaque, Chairman, Department of EEE, BUBT and Convener of IEEE BUBT Student Branch, delivered the welcome speech. Among others, EEE teacher Mr. MahfuzulHaque and Md. AlamgirKabir, other distinguished guests, faculty members, officials and students of EEE were present in the ceremony.
12 July, 2018: Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organized a orientation program of BBA, English, Economics, EEE, Textile Engineering and Law for new Summer-2018 Semester undergraduate students on Wednesday Afternoon, July 11, 2018, at the University Hall Room, Rupnagar, Dhaka. Old students, teachers, officials and chairmen of different departments were present at the program.
Professor Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of BUBT in Chief Guest’s speech congratulated new students and said, with higher study, students have responsibility to build the nation. He urged students to be aware of terrorism and extremism.
Professor Md. Enayet Hossain Miah, Treasurer also gave directive speech to the students. Professor Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor delivered welcome speech. Professor Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts presided over the program. Professor Dr. Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Professor Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business; Professor Dr. Syed Sarfaraj Hamid, Dean, Faculty of Law spoke at the orientation.
Professor A B Md. Badruddoza Mia, Controller of Examinations led the Prayer at the same program for departed soul of BUBT student Masud Rana who was recently (July 2, 2018) killed in a Road Crash at Mirpur. Mr. Ashraful Alam Roni, Lecturer of English anchored the program.
June 30, 2018: Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) inaugurated its first English Language Lab in the Department of English on Saturday, June 30, 2018 to develop the English language proficiency of graduate and undergraduate students of the University.
The language lab was inaugurated by Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of BUBT, in the presence of Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohantandc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), UGC, Prof. Md. On the occasion, Department of English, BUBT organized a workshop on “The Lesson Plan for BUBT Language Lab”at the University’s International Conference Hall, Rupnagar, Dhaka.In the program,certificatesamong workshop attendees were distributed. A prize giving ceremony of English Clubwasalso held.
Theinauguration of language lab will allow students to have interactive sessions. It will provide equal opportunity to all the students to hear the instructor irrespective of place where they are seated.There will be less miscommunication because of direct nature of the sound transmission. Prof. Syed AnwarulHuq, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Humanities was the keynote speaker of the workshop. He said,there is a disaster in higher educationsector in this countryandthe condition of English language teaching is not satisfactory. The language lab can help us to overcome this disaster.Prof. Santi Narayan Gosh, Director, IQAC, BUBT said, although the mother tongue is the best medium of instruction, English language is significant, because, we live in aglobal village.
Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohantandc, Project Director of HEQEP, UGC said that English Language Lab can help us tremendously to upgrade the English Learning Process in this University.He suggested teachers to care about the background of the knowledge and the script.
Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Vice Chancellor of BUBT presided over the opening session. He said,students face some challenges to learn effectively. They cannot speak English properly.This Lab can play a very significant role to improve the skill of the students. According to the Vice Chancellor,BUBT and World Bank funded this Lab under the supervision of ministry of education and University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. He said, in the lab, teacher can look after each student, which is not possible in case of the regular classroom. In a lab instructor can communicate with many students by pressing a mouse key in order to talk with students. It can help students in academic and practical life.

May 07, 2018, Dhaka: Department of Economics of Bangladesh University of Business & Technology (BUBT) organized a seminar on “Moving Out of the LDCs: Strategies for Sustainable Graduation” on Monday, May 07, 2018 at International Conference Hall of the University Permanent Campus, Rupnagar, Mirpur-2, Dhaka.
Prof. Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, Distinguished Fellow, Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), was the Chief Guest & Keynote Speaker of the Seminar. He said in his speech that, we should keep Sustainability and Inclusiveness in our development process to have the real taste of the transition from Least Developing Country to Middle Income Country. He also said, there are challenges, added to this transition, such as increasing of tariff and interest rates of credits. We can face those challenges successfully if we go with economic diversification and if we can take care of the labor displace risk due to global technological development. He also mentioned that too much indirect tax is not expected, it is not good for lower income people of the country. He commented that, while answering questions, to keep free flow of the development, our economy expects political stability at any cost, but political change is not stability, it is the sustainability of the economic policy.

The Self-Assessment Committee of Economics Department has arranged the Workshop on Result Sharing of Self-Assessment Report on 05th April, 2018 at room number 702, permanent campus, BUBT. The program was chaired by Mr. Sirajul Islam, Head, SAC-Economics, BUBT and Chairman, Department of Economics, BUBT. The Chief Guest of the program was Prof. Md. Abu Saleh, Vice-Chancellor, BUBT. The Special Guests of the Program were Prof. Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor and Chief Coordinator of Extra-Curriculum activities, Prof. Md. Enayet Hossain Mia, Treasurer, BUBT, Prof. Shanti Narayan Ghosh, Director, IQAC, BUBT and BUBT research center, and Prof. Dr. Syed Masud Husain, Dean, Faculty of Business. The workshop was two technical sessions in first session the result of the SAR was presented. In session two the SWOT analysis and focus group study on different issues of SAR report took place.
The Self-Assessment Committee (SAC) of the Department of English of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organized the second workshop entitled “Exchanging Ideas of Survey Results” under the Higher Education Quality Enhance Project (HEQEP) of the Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. The workshop was held in the Conference Room of the Department of English in the Permanent Campus of BUBT. After the recitation from the Holy Qur’an, the Program Chair, Professor Syed Anwarul Huq, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities welcomed everyone present at the workshop. He thanked all concerned regarding the survey and appreciated the importance of the proposed survey. Professor Md. Abu Saleh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of BUBT graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Appreciating the noble mission of BUBT he said, “it is time to identify the deficiency and deviation through the survey results and to overcome them with our joint efforts.” Professor Santi Narayan Ghosh, Director, IQAC, BUBT, and Professor Mian Lutfar Rahman, Proctor, BUBT delivered speeches at the ceremony as Special Guests. Professor Rahman urged all to take the survey result seriously while Professor Ghosh elaborately discussed the methodology of the survey, referring to a book named Successful Survey by George Gray. Mr. S. M. Woahid Murad, the Facilitator of the workshop, shared the survey results with the faculty members of the entity. The first session of the workshop ended with the vote of thanks by Mr. Sabbir Ahmed, Member, SAC, Dept. of English, BUBT. The workshop was actively participated by all the faculty members of the department and continued with other two sessions. Mr. Md. Ashraful Alam Rony and Ms. Tahseen Humayra, both Lecturers of Dept. of English, BUBT anchored the program.
Awareness Needed for Prevention of Sexual Harassments in Digital Platform: BUBT Law Dept.’s Seminar

Sexual Harassment using Digital Platform, apparently, has increased today and we can prevent this harassment by only thinning out social awareness. Speakers and Analyzers said in a Seminar on Wednesday Afternoon, April 11, 2018. The Department of Law & Justice of Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT) organized this Seminar on “Violence against Women and Sexual Harassment in Working Place: A Legal and Socio-Economic Analysis” at the Hall Room of the University’s Rupnagar, Mirpur-2, Permanent Campus.
Speakers also said that the violence against Women and sexual harassment at work have increased day by day. Women workers are being the victim by their office “Boss” or the colleagues. Beside this outlook, we can see, Men are also being the victim of Sexual Harassment and Violence but they cannot speak up, because they are ‘Man’ socially.
Mr. Raquibul Haque Miah, Legal Adviser, Bangladesh, International Air Transport Association (IATA), Canada, was the Chief Guest of the Seminar. He said that Women are changing our country’s economy to a vigorous point, but the change makers are not secured. This is totally unacceptable. We should make our workplaces secured for Women by setting up CCTVs in every corner of the workplaces. If we fail to do that, Women might not go out and, eventually, our economy’s growth rate might fall down. He suggested that Women should inform police immediately when they face challenges on the road, office, Campus and everywhere.
Ms. Rowshan Ara, Project Director, Naripokkho and Ms. Selina Ahmed, Executive Director, Acid Survivors Foundation were the Guest Speakers.
The Project Director of Naripokkho Ms. Rowshan Ara, said in her speech that, Sexual Harassment on the Internet is now in a cautionary level. In her opinion, the irritation is not occurred only by touching, it also can be possible on the internet and the pornography is the last weapon of this harassment and violence. She advised our sons to learn how to use digital devices safely and how to be safe on the internet.
